Analyzing Different Ways of Getting a Neck Lift Without Surgery

By Elizabeth

Our face is not the only part of our body that shows the symptoms of old age. Yes, it is the most visible one and for this reason most women are concentrating on getting a face lift when they want to look younger. However, the consequences of aging and gravity – wrinkles, sagging skin and loss of elasticity – are manifesting all over our body, including on our neck.

The first neck wrinkles can appear really early. Most of the time they are a result of an incorrect sleeping or sitting position – when your chin is pointed downward, this way creating creases on the neck skin. As time passes, these lines can become even deeper, resulting in deep, ugly wrinkles.

However, a wobbly neck skin (the so-called ‘turkey neck’) usually appears after a considerable weight gain or weight loss. Overweight people usually have a double (or even triple) chin, which is extremely unaesthetic. In case they lose weight very fast (as a result of a severe disease or a surgical intervention), they will have sagging skin all over their body, including on their face and neck. Neck lift surgery can remove all the excess skin, providing good results in a relatively short time. However, not everyone is psychologically or physically ready to have a surgery. Some people simply can’t afford it, while others are afraid of blood, incisions and complications.

Even if most plastic surgeons state that non-surgical treatments are not really effective, I’m sure that this opinion is first of all a part of their advertising campaign. Of course, non-invasive means cannot offer you dramatic results overnight. On the long run, however, having a neck lift without surgery can be much more beneficial – not only for the beauty of your neck, but also for your overall well-being.

Let’s explore first the safest means of having a younger-looking neck.

Improve your lifestyle, your diet and your attitude! Exercise regularly and don’t forget about neck exercises! If you exercise your neck correctly, you tone and tighten not only your neck skin and muscles: you also improve the straightness and flexibility of your spine! You can combine the exercises with neck massage, which increases the blood circulation and stimulates the skin’s natural healing powers. Get enough sleep but don’t forget that a big, fluffy pillow will accelerate the development of wrinkles by keeping your chin at an inappropriate angle. Also, when you walk or sit, don’t forget about your posture!

You can cover the sagging skin with makeup. If you use a darker color on the neck, you can draw the attention toward your face, especially if you use a vibrant eye or lip color. Don’t exaggerate with the makeup, however! Too much makeup can make you look older than you are instead of giving you a younger look.

You can also hide your neck wrinkles with proper accessories, clothes and hairstyles. For example, a V-shaped dress or blouse can make your neck look thinner, while a long neck sweater can hide the unappealing wrinkles. Long dangling earrings (just like a bright makeup) can divert the attention from the neck. Long and medium hairstyles are more appropriate for hiding the neck than short ones.

Special anti wrinkle creams can (and should be) applied on the neck area as well, not just on the face. If you have a dry skin, you should start applying a moisturizing cream on the neck every day while you’re still in your 20s. The more hydrated your skin is, the less vulnerable it will be to premature wrinkles. As you grow older, replace the moisturizing product with one having an anti aging formula.

Now let’s take a look at more sophisticated (and more expensive) means of getting a neck lift without surgery.

neck lift without surgeryBotox can be injected in the neck area as well. By relaxing the neck muscles, it makes your skin look smoother temporarily (the effects last from 4 to 6 months). However, this procedure is not suitable for people with excess neck fat and weak neck muscles.

Other temporary (Restylane, Radiesse and Juvederm) and permanent (Artefill and silicone) volumizers and dermal fillers are being used by plastic surgeons as well. In case of temporary fillers, repeated sessions are needed. Permanent fillers are not absorbed by the tissues of the patient, remaining in place for the entire life. However, they involve many risks, including the formation of ugly lumps under the skin.

The main technology-based procedures used in non-surgical facelifts are appropriate for the neck area as well. Ultherapy (an ultrasound based procedure) and Thermage (which uses radio frequencies) are considered highly effective in increasing the skin’s capacity of producing collagen, at the same time tightening it.

As you can see, the available non surgical neck lift procedures do not differ much from the treatments which are being used in face lift without surgery. Even if they cannot offer dramatic results instantly (like plastic surgery), they can be extremely effective on the long run.
